Church Gardens – July 2022

So armed with bat detector and some brave members of the church Sunday school we met at the church wildlife garden late last night 2nd June.

It was perfect conditions, warm and still and still fairly light even though it was 2200hrs. As we stood talking a bat flew overhead. Woo hoo they had appeared🦇🦇.

From then on they appeared periodically and we managed to catch their call on the detector. They were common pipistrelles which in our area was to be expected.

We all had a chance taking the detector and taking time to understand these charismatic, misunderstood creatures.

It was a great experience which we hope to repeat on 6th July. We may possibly change the venue but will update time and location on this blog and intimation in church.

We have taken delivery of two seats for the Wild Garden made for us by Uddingston and Bothwell Mens Shed, money for materials kindly donated by our Community Café.  The seats are heavy but not fixed so can be repositioned according to the Seasons. For now they are in the sunshine in the morning, if there is any!

The high winds brought down a substantial branch of the Horse Chestnut tree at the main church gate. Fortunately, no damage to life or limb has been reported. A good Samaritan wielding a chain saw cut up the branch which has been lying inside the railings to allow the health of the tree to be checked by experts. The Property Convenor will also ask the arborists to cut back overhanging tree branches in the wild garden to bring in more light.
